TiE Austin elects Jayshree Vakil as President

Entrepreneurship organization reboots with new leadership

Austin, Texas, March 1, 2020 – TiE Austin, the local chapter of TiE Global, the world’s largest organization that fosters entrepreneurship, has elected a new President, Jayshree Vakil. She is a former advertising/marketing executive and a serial entrepreneur.

TiE Austin was founded in 1999 with the goal of promoting the growth of entrepreneurship in Central Texas via forums on key topics, education and networking events, and access to potential investors and incubators. As part of TiE Global, which is in 62 cities and 19 countries, the Austin chapter provides access to resources and visibility on a worldwide basis.

“We are delighted to have Jayshree as the new leader of our chapter”, said Anurag Kumar, CEO of iTexico and a board member of TiE Austin.  “She brings new energy and fresh ideas to help TiE Austin meet its key objective of fostering entrepreneurship in Austin and Central Texas. Jayshree has been a very active Charter Member of TiE Austin having led a number of key initiatives over the last few years, and I am confident that she will raise our impact in the Austin business community.”

“I am looking forward to broadening the reach of TiE Austin,” said Vakil. “While we have always had a niche in Austin’s technology business, there is so much more that we can do to encourage and support entrepreneurship in other business areas and segments of the community such as Women and College Students. Expect to hear about new initiatives in the coming weeks as our chapter membership puts its shoulder to the wheel.”

Vakil holds an MS in Advertising (Northwestern University), a BS in Economics (University of Bombay, India), and a BS in Fine Arts (J.J. School of Art, University of Bombay, India). She held senior positions at DDB Needham and Wieden & Kennedy before founding her own advertising/marketing agency. She has also been involved in technology and real-estate startups, and currently is an artist with her own fine arts studio and business.
